Peerless Coffee
Peerless Coffee is one of Oakland’s oldest coffee roasting company, a family run business started by John Vukasin in 1920. Besides making incredible coffee, the company has a collection of museum quality coffee artifacts, many still in use. It’s always interesting to have authentic artisan elements to work with and to see one of the photos made into a modern poster is pretty cool too!
Cocktails!
I love to photo cocktails (and drink them) and I’ve been lately I’ve been doing both for Oakland Magazine’s cocktail column. In every issue the writer finds a delicious drink and gets the recipe from the bartender. I also photo cocktails for Oakland Magazine restaurant reviews too. Between the two, I thought I’d share some favorites…

Of all the cocktails photographed here my favorite was the Pimm’s Cup. It’s made from Pimm’s No. 1, a spirit from Great Britain. You can get a recipe from www.foodandwine.com, but it’s so dangerously easy why even bother. Just mix Pimm’s with ginger ale or lemon-lime soda one to one. Add fruit— apples, oranges, cucumber, mint and ice and you’ve got a great way to end the day. Or, for the best version, stop by East End Restaurant and Bar in Alameda.

Check out the recipe for the Featherweight from Oakland Magazine here. It’s perfect for a summer evening.
Bartenders of Marin
Here’s a fun job I did recently for Marin Magazine–one of my favorite subjects–cocktails! I was really excited to see a shot picked for the cover and then a of couple of months later a food cover too. Thank you Marin Magazine!
